Of the world's 6.4 billion people, about 2.6 billion live on less than 2 USD and in India more than 80% of India's population (800 million people) lives on less than 2 USD a day. They not only lack access to clean water, electricity, health services, sanitation etc. but also sustainable means of earning income. They are caught in a vicious circle of poverty where low income, unemployment and negligible wealth creation make them vulnerable.
Though high GDP growth of last few years has resulted into prosperity for many but the economic divide between haves and have-nots has widened further as poor have not integrated with the main stream economy. Planning Commission and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) study projects that 80 million jobs would be created in next five years covering 36 sectors, two third of these jobs would be for low end skills. There also exist huge employment opportunities in the service sector which needs to be tapped strategically. Poor seldom get right price for their farm and non-farm produce/product and face immense challenges in accessing markets. There is therefore an imminent need to look for innovative ways of integrating them through inclusive marketing approaches.

Moderator,

Indeed a very good initiative.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations
ReplyDeleteDear all,
ReplyDeleteFinally what we dreamt of at one point of time has come true today. I hope all of you have reached back your homes safely. Thanks to the moderator for giving the home page such a fine look. As I mentioned on the last day that it is not the end but the beginning. So let us begin by reviewing on what we discussed last and taking it further from there. Inclusive Marketing Model need to be built up on a three step exercise of Identification, Mobilisation and Economisation . Now the key point in front of the members is to identify as much of needs, stakeholders, products and services of significance at a local level,Institutions, organisations for strategic alliances and reasons for exclusion i.e Finance, physical or mental disabilities, gender, caste etc.
Once these are identified then try to mobilise all 5 Ms which create a comparative advantage to any economic activity i.e Minds, Men, Money, Material and Machines. Significant differentiators among these 5 M at all level to be defined. The last step remains on how to economise on these mobilised factor services i.e through scale by widening the capacity base or by through strategic alliances and partnership to widen the scope. The last but not the least becomes the process of economisation by becoming an end to end solution provider to the neglected mass (like E chaupal) wherein on one side the empowerment is given to the down trodden as a producer to get best price of his produce and on the other side he is being treated as a worthy customer at Chaupal Sagar.
Everyone can participate to take this model further. I am very sure that this model will maintain the unity in thought process even under highly diversified area of operations in which you people are involved. I will keep on appearing on the blog as usual to meet you and share my take on your calls.

ReplyDeleteWe are thankful to MART&BIMTECH who introduced us "Inclusive marketing" concept which makes Market concept more meaningful by focusing the BOP. We hope the blog will be of great help to have updates of the ' inclusive market' in the days to come.
Thanks and regards to all in MART & BIMTECH.
Thank you Mukul, we will definitely need your comments to keep this going. I am in Rajasthan now where the goverment is planning to set up a Construction Academy in PPP mode. The academy will build capacities of the bop segment engaged in the construction sector and also help them in placements.
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering can Aditya Birla group set up such kind of an institution and derive a revenue model out of it?
